With great sadness we received the news of the death of Professor Manuel Malheiro. Mané, as his closest collaborators used to call him, was the postgraduate coordinator for several years during his work at ITA postgraduate program, having worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm for our program. He was also a very present and well-known researcher in the Brazilian community of nuclear physicists and astrophysicists, having stood out for his research on the so-called compact bodies, such as neutron stars and quasars. In recognition of his contribution and importance to physics in Brazil, the CNPq published a note of condolence here, as did the SBF (Brazilian Physics Society) here and here.

We at PG-FIS, teachers and students, leave our fraternal condolences to all of Mané's friends and family, especially his dear family, Emília, Rafael and Manuela. Manuel Malheiro will be missed and his legacy will never be forgotten.
